Meet the Candidate
Laura M. Ecimovic has served as the New Kent County Commissioner of the Revenue since January 2007. She is a licensed appraiser with experience as a small business owner, Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue and business manager.
Over the past 16 years, she has continued her education in tax policy and ad valorem assessments with over 500 hours in continuing education. Laura has established a record of transparency and accountability to citizens by:
- Establishing New Kent’s In-house reassessment of Real Estate and providing a detailed record card to each property owner.
- Establishing DMV Select in office to provide DMV services to New Kent Citizens.
- Streamlining office operations to include comprehensive online services on the county website.
- Successfully advocating for reduced Personal Property Tax Rate in 2022
- Providing the Board of Supervisors and County Administration with reliable financial data necessary for governmental functions.
- Saving money while providing a higher level of service.
- Advocating for tax relief for the elderly & disabled, volunteer fire & police, and veterans exemptions.
- Developing and instructing workshops that assist residents to understand assessment law and procedures, including how to appeal your assessment.
- Participating in New Kent University, speaking to local organizations, home owner associations and businesses.
As a resident of New Kent for over 35 years, Laura is active in multiple community organizations, is currently a Board Member of Proclaiming Grace Outreach and founded an art scholarship in 2007 with the New Kent Educational Foundation. Laura is passionate in her belief to “pay it forward” and relies on her faith to complete the mission.
Her husband, David, is a retired police officer. They have 4 daughters & 2 granddaughters.
